Emberforge license terms
XN3 Technologies · Effective October 14, 2026
Summary
These terms are the agreement between you and XN3 Technologies (“XN3”, “we”, “us”) for using Emberforge. In short:
- Basic mode is free, for as long as you like. The free trial gives you every feature for 15 days.
- The full version is an annual license for one person, on up to 5 computers. It does not renew automatically.
- Changed your mind? Ask within 14 days of buying for a full refund, no questions asked.
- Your books are yours. We claim no rights in what you write, and you never lose access to it, even when a license ends.
- Emberforge is provided “as is”: check a proof before you publish, and keep backups of your books.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA. If you are a consumer, you also keep the rights your local law gives you.
The full terms follow. Our privacy policy (https://www.xn3tech.com/privacy-policy/) explains how we handle personal information.
Agreeing to these terms
By installing, activating or using Emberforge, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use Emberforge.
You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree to these terms for you. If you accept them for a company or other organization, you confirm that you may bind it, and “you” includes it.
The free trial, Basic mode and the full version
- Free trial: when you first install Emberforge, every feature is available for 15 days, free of charge. The trial is offered once per person and computer.
- Basic mode: when the trial ends, Emberforge continues in Basic mode, free of charge and without a time limit. Basic mode includes the features described on our website and limits others, such as the number of books on the bookshelf.
- Full version: an activation key unlocks every feature for the term of your license (see “Annual license”).
You may use every edition, including Basic mode, for personal and commercial work, such as publishing and selling your books.
Your license
Emberforge is licensed, not sold. Subject to these terms, XN3 grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Emberforge.
- A full-version license is for one person: the person named in the activation key, which is tied to the email address used to buy it. You may activate it on up to 5 computers that you own or use, for example a desktop and a laptop that you keep in step with cloud sync. Each additional person needs their own license.
- Keep your activation key to yourself: do not share, publish or sell it. We may deactivate a key that has been shared, published or refunded, or that was obtained fraudulently; Emberforge then continues in Basic mode.
- You may share the official Emberforge installer, unmodified, or a link to our website, for example with someone who wants to try it.
Emberforge, its code, design, name and logos remain the property of XN3 and its licensors. These terms give you no rights in them beyond the license above.
Annual license
A full-version license lasts one year. A promotional license, such as a free license from a promotion code, lasts for the period of the offer instead, and each free offer can be used once per person and once per computer. The end date is in your activation key and is shown in Emberforge under Settings → About.
Licenses do not renew automatically, and we never charge you again without your action. Emberforge reminds you before your license ends; to continue with the full version, buy a new annual license at the price then shown on our website.
When a license ends, Emberforge continues in Basic mode. Your books and everything you created stay yours and stay on your computer. Books beyond the Basic mode limit wait in the Archive and are never deleted; they come back to the bookshelf when you activate the full version again.
Buying, prices and taxes
Prices are shown on our website and at checkout, where any taxes are calculated.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Where Stripe acts as the seller of record for your purchase, its terms of sale also apply to the payment. We never see or store your card details.
We email your activation key to the address used for the payment, normally within a few minutes. If you renew before your license ends, the new year is added to the end of your current license.
14-day refund
If the full version is not right for you, email info@xn3tech.com within 14 days of your purchase and we will refund the full amount you paid, including taxes, to your original payment method. No reason is needed. This applies to every purchase, including each new annual license.
When a purchase is refunded, its activation key is deactivated and Emberforge continues in Basic mode. After 14 days, purchases are not refundable, except where the law requires.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country that gives you a legal right to withdraw from online purchases, this refund policy gives you at least the same 14 days, and nothing in it limits your statutory rights.
Your books are yours
You own everything you write and create with Emberforge: your manuscripts, notes, pictures and the files you export. We claim no ownership of them and no license to them, and you owe us nothing when you publish or sell your books.
Emberforge keeps your books as ordinary files on your computer, so you can open, copy and back them up with other programs, whatever happens to your license.
You are responsible for your content and for having the rights to the text, pictures and fonts you use, including fonts you add yourself. The fonts bundled with Emberforge are licensed under the SIL Open Font License, which allows embedding them in the books you publish.
What you may not do
- Copy, modify, sell, rent, lend or distribute Emberforge, except as these terms allow.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Emberforge, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
- Bypass or tamper with the free trial, Basic mode, activation keys or license checks, or create, share or sell activation keys.
- Remove or change copyright notices, or use Emberforge to break the law or to infringe anyone’s rights.
Services you choose to connect
Emberforge works without any online service. If you choose to use an AI service, an AI detection service or Google Drive for cloud sync, you do so under your own account and agreement with that provider, and its terms, prices and privacy policy apply. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their availability, their charges, their results or how they handle your data.
AI suggestions, AI detection scores and AI-built indexes can be wrong. Review them before you rely on them: you decide what goes into your book.
Cloud sync
Cloud sync is optional. It stores your books, encrypted, in your own Google Drive, protected by a sync password and a recovery key that only you have. We cannot see your books or recover your password or key: if you lose both, the cloud copy cannot be opened, though the books on your computers are not affected.
Cloud sync copies changes and deletions between your computers. It is not a substitute for a separate backup.
Updates and support
We may release updates that add, change or remove features, fix problems or keep Emberforge secure. Emberforge checks for updates automatically unless you turn this off in Settings → Updates.
Support is by email at info@xn3tech.com. We answer as soon as we reasonably can, but we do not promise a response time or that every problem can be solved.
Backups and proofs
Keep regular backups of your books. Computers fail, files get deleted and software has bugs, and we cannot restore files that are lost.
Before you print or publish, check a proof and make sure your files meet the requirements of your printer, print-on-demand service or store. Emberforge helps you make print-ready files, but you are responsible for what you publish.
No warranty
Emberforge is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, XN3 disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, and any warranty that Emberforge will be uninterrupted, error-free or accepted by every printer, service or store.
Where the law does not allow these warranties to be excluded, they are limited to the shortest period the law allows.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- XN3 is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or content, printing or publishing costs, or business interruption, even if we were told they were possible; and
- XN3’s total liability for any claim relating to Emberforge or these terms is limited to the amount you paid for Emberforge in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$50 if you paid nothing.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud or, where applicable, for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Ending these terms
You may stop using Emberforge at any time by uninstalling it; your books stay on your computer.
If you seriously break these terms, for example by sharing or selling activation keys, we may end your full-version license and deactivate your key without a refund; Emberforge then continues in Basic mode.
The sections “Your books are yours”, “No warranty”, “Limitation of liability”, “Governing law and disputes” and “General” continue to apply after these terms end.
Export and sanctions laws
You may not use or export Emberforge in violation of United States or other applicable export control and sanctions laws, including in a country, or by a person, subject to US embargoes or sanctions.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
If there is a problem, please email us first at info@xn3tech.com; most issues can be solved quickly that way. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and XN3 consent to their jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer living outside the United States, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring a claim in its courts.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when Emberforge gains new features or the law changes. The new version is published on our website and in Emberforge, with its effective date. The terms in effect when you bought a license continue to apply to that license until it ends. For the free trial and Basic mode, continuing to use Emberforge after new terms take effect means you accept them.
General
These terms and our privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and XN3 about Emberforge. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we do not enforce a term right away, we do not give up the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our written consent; we may transfer ours to a company that takes over Emberforge. We may send you notices at the email address you used when you bought a license.
