Privacy notice: reporting problems in our games

This notice covers the "Report a problem" feature of Terra Incognita, and of Letters of Marque once it has the same feature.

Version of 20 October 2026.

The short version

Our games collect nothing in the background: no analytics, no tracking, no accounts and no advertising. The only time anything leaves your computer is when you choose to send a report about a problem or an idea, by pressing Send. Before you do, the game shows you the report and everything attached to it.

When the game asks you to report an error

If a game finds an error it cannot recover from, it can ask whether you would like to report it. It asks at most twice an hour. Answering Not now, or closing the question, sends nothing.

You can turn the question off for good: Settings, Reports, "Ask me to report errors". You can also report a problem or an idea yourself at any time from the Game menu, Report a problem.

A report is never sent without you pressing Send. If the game is offline when you press Send, the report is kept on your computer and the game asks again at its next start before sending it.

What a report contains

What you write: whether it is a bug or an idea, a title and a description.

  • The game version, the name of your system (for example "Windows") and your language setting.
  • The world code, the game day, whether you are in port, at sea or ashore, the number of voyages and the difficulty.
  • The last few error messages. File locations, web addresses and email addresses are removed from them.
  • If you leave the box ticked, a small picture of the map. It can show the names of places you founded.
  • An email address, only if you type one. It is used only to reply to you.

You can untick the game details and the picture, and the dialog lists exactly what would be sent before you press Send.

What a report does not contain

  • Your name, your captain's name, the names of your careers or saves, or your files and saves.
  • An account, a device number or any other identifier. Reports are anonymous.
  • Your internet address. Like any request on the internet, your connection is visible to our servers when a report arrives. We use it only to limit how many reports one connection can send in an hour, we keep it only in temporary memory, and we do not put it in the report.

Where a report goes and who handles it

A report is sent over an encrypted connection to a small service we run on Amazon Web Services in the United States (Oregon). The service files it as a ticket in a private tracker we keep on GitHub. A picture, if any, is stored in the same private tracker. Only we can read it.

To sort reports (is it a bug, is it a duplicate, how serious it looks) we send the text of each ticket, not the picture, to Anthropic, whose Claude assistant suggests labels. It only suggests: a person decides what is fixed, and nothing is built or changed because of a report without our approval.

We do not sell reports, use them for advertising or share them with anyone else.

How long we keep reports

We keep a report while we work on it and for a reasonable time after, so that we remember what was fixed. Because reports are anonymous we cannot find yours unless you tell us its title and roughly when you sent it. If you want a report you sent deleted, including any email you gave, write to info@xn3tech.com with that and we will delete it.

Children

Our games are not aimed at children, and a report asks for no personal details.

Changes to this notice

If we change what a report contains or where it goes, we will change this notice first and say so at the top of the page. The date below is the date of the latest version.
